It is with great enthusiasm that I share my experience as a fellow under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Baiju Senadhipan. During my time in this fellowship, I had the privilege of working closely with a mentor who is not only a leading expert in his field but also a compassionate and insightful teacher.During my fellowship, I was exposed to a wide range of surgeries, including upper GI, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and colorectal procedures. Despite being a junior surgeon with limited experience, Prof. Dr. Baiju was always patient and supportive, helping us overcome our shortcomings and adjust to his fast-paced surgical environment.
Knowledge is power” is a well-known saying, and I truly witnessed its real meaning under his mentorship. His knowledge is vast, spanning anatomy, clinical assessment, and postoperative care. What sets him apart is not only his surgical expertise but also his genuine care for his patients. His politeness, trustworthiness, and ability to make quick, confident decisions, especially in difficult situations, are qualities I deeply admire. It has been a lifelong treasure for me to train under him for nine months. Throughout our fellowship, he treated all of us with respect, despite our limited surgical experience. This humility taught me the importance of treating my junior colleagues with the same consideration in the future.
Prof. Dr. Baiju often says, “If I can do it, everyone can do it,” which is a statement that reflects his rare humility and approachability, even as a renowned expert in his field. He provides hands-on experience without ever compromising patient safety, ensuring that we gain practical skills while learning the nuances of surgery. His assessment of our skills was always insightful, and his dedication to teaching has shaped thousands of surgeons worldwide. His academic activities are purely driven by a passion for education, not financial gain, making his teachings accessible to surgeons across the globe.
I am forever grateful to him for this incredible opportunity, and I wish him and his family health and happiness for years to come. I strongly encourage all young surgeons to seek mentorship under him, as it will undoubtedly be a transformative experience in their careers
